Vote Now (And Tomorrow, Too)

After months of delay, the November/December issue of Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine (on-sale date of October 8th) is finally available in the wild. For most of you, that means your local Barnes & Noble newsstand.

This is significant for two reasons. First, this issue contains a story of mine: Destiny, a brief gimmick tale about nominative determinism. (Really). Second, it contains the ballot for the 2025 Ellery Queen Readers Choice Awards.

If you wanted to vote or any or all of the stories I published at EQMM this year, I wouldn’t tell you no:

However, voting requires some effort. You have to cut a ballot from the back of the magazine, fill it out by hand, address an envelope, lick a stamp, and mail the damn thing. It’s either nostalgic or antique, depending on how you look at it, but it does have the virtue of ensuring votes are cast only by paying customers of the magazine, which counts for a lot.

Another hurdle — ballots must be postmarked by February 1st 2026. The ballot says January 15th, but the deadline has been extended owing to the publication delays EQMM has experienced this year. So there is still time — a very little time — to get your vote in if you are motivated!

Thank you for your consideration!
