The Bride of Frankenstein
Two weeks ago, Billy D and I talked about Frankenstein, and this week we are back to finish the job, with a discussion of the sequel -- 1935's Bride of Frankenstein.
Arguably the greatest movie sequel ever made, the film story of Frankenstein feels incomplete if you consider only one picture, and not the other. (You can make an argument that Son of Frankenstein needs to be in there, too). But though we may think of them as a common thing, Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are quite separate pictures, in terms of tone and storytelling. The differences are fascinating, and strike to the heart of a debate that is impossible to settle -- which is the greater picture, the original, or its sequel?
(I won't give my answer here, but I do grapple with it in the podcast).
You can hear our talk here. Thanks to Billy D for providing this forum. I do love talking about old monster movies!
